HomeFree-USA and REACH Merge to Create HomeFree-USA South Florida Office
HomeFree-USA and Real Estate, Education and Community Housing, Inc., (REACH) of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, have agreed to merge their South Florida operations, creating one of South Florida’s largest non-profit housing agencies. The combination will bring together the best of both organizations and cultures and will feature superior service to clients, expanded capacity and a greater level of experience and market penetration. HomeFree-USA Awarded Grant to Raise Awareness of Loan Modification Scams
With funding from NeighborWorks America, HomeFree-USA will launch a campaign to raise awareness of the preponderance of loan scams in certain high-risk target markets and how victims of scams can seek assistance. The campaign will also advise homeowners on how to locate trusted and reliable foreclosure prevention assistance. Over the next 12 months HomeFree-USA branches in Metro DC, Kansas City, Atlanta, and South Florida and its affiliates Housing Options and Planning Enterprises in Oxon Hill Maryland, KCCD of Los Angeles, Mabuhay Alliance in San Diego, and Boat People SOS in Northern Virginia will outreach to some of the most vulnerable populations. HomeFree-USA Hosts Highly Successful 7th Annual Reaching Millions Leadership and Housing Counseling Training Conference
Nonprofit leaders from around the country gathered in San Juan, PR to discuss the current state of the housing market. The conference theme was Back to Basics: the Future of Homeownership. Housing industry representatives from the for-profit, governmental and nonprofit sectors discussed best practices. HomeFree-USA presented new programs for helping homeowners and homebuyers and using foreclosed properties to create affordable housing opportunities. Attendees described the conference as 'educational, relevant, fun, supportive and inspirational.
HomeFree-USA Hosts Successful Sustainable Homeownership for All Conference
More than 200 housing industry leaders came together on February 18 for a one-day conference designed to address various aspects of the housing crisis. Speakers such as FDIC Chair, Sheila Bair, Freddie Mac Deputy Chief Economist, Amy Crews Cutts and Michelle Pinnix, SVP, First American discussed the genesis of the crisis, where it is now, and where it is going. NCLR president, Janet Murguia spoke compellingly of the ways to improve homeownership for people of color. American Banker Op-ed: Tenant to Homeownership
HomeFree-USA and Faith Bautista, the president and chief executive of the Mabuhay Alliance in San Diego have joined to promote a Tenant to Homeowner program for homeowners impacted by the foreclosure crisis. As described in a recent op-ed in American Banker, the program encourages a speedy, uncontested foreclosure by the lender that allows the homeowner to stay in the property as a tenant with the option to repurchase the property. It endorses structured payment plans that allow part of the rent to be applied to a down payment for repurchase as well as incentives for lenders who opt-in to the program.
