HomeFree-USA History
Since 1995 HomeFree-USA has been working to change the climate of the housing market for historically underserved populations. We empower women, minorities, and low-to-moderate-income families by providing them easy to understand methods to save money and to budget wisely. Rather than producing homeowners, HomeFree-USA produces financially wise people who can manage their money for life.
Marcia Griffin, founder of HFUSA, possess over twenty years of experience in the mortgage industry. During her tenure in the industry, Marcia witnessed many frightening and disheartening acts. She saw firsthand how many individuals and families were not given access to the benefits and wealth that homeownership fosters. Through her years of experience, Marcia recognized how often people lacked the knowledge and skills to make informed choices about homeownership. Many were particularly vulnerable to predatory lending practices. It was clear to her that unprepared, and unknowledgeable homebuyers paid more and received less than their more knowledgeable counterparts. Feeling the need to change the paradigm and to help those who desperately needed it, Marcia founded HomeFree-USA.
What makes HomeFree-USA unique is the feeling of empathy, personal attention, and individual care that all members receive. Founded by an African American woman, who is personally committed to improving the financial viability of all people, HomeFree-USA is specifically designed to prepare its diverse clientele for the homebuying process, teach financial literacy, ensure mortgage loan approval, prevent default, and limit foreclosure.
