Credit Correction Letter
Your credit report contains information about where you work and live and how you pay your bills. It also may show whether you have been sued or arrested or have filed for bankruptcy. The credit bureaus compile and sell your credit report to businesses. Because businesses use this information to evaluate your applications for credit, insurance, employment and other purposes, it is important that the information in your report is complete and accurate.
Under the law, the Credit Bureaus must correct errors in your report. First you must tell them in writing that the information is incorrect.
How to use the Credit Correction Letter
When composing the letter, it is wise to review the credit report in its entirety! The credit correction letter should contain all of your disputes. It is recommended that you use one letter to address all of your credit concerns per credit reporting bureau. Credit Bureaus are more receptive to a single letter versus multiple credit letters. Please note the Credit Bureau may ask you to send proof of your identity if information on your report and your current information (i.e. your address) differs significantly.
